But why does anyone need link directories when we have search engines? How many people use them? It seems that directories mainly exist as an arm of the SEO industry.

Let me disagree with one statement. Link directories exist not only as the SEO, they provide the users with the information about resources required.

True.. There are so many sites, filled up with useless content. Agreed that Google loves content but it should be worthy.
Apart from that I believe that article marketing and directories are really useful..

It’s disturbing how much trash there is out there. Web directories? I don’t use them because it is usually much simpler and quicker to just do a google search.

As for article writing, skidoo lens still seem to work despite the skidoo slap and human edited and reviewed article sites have a higher authority generally- of course your content has to be up to scratch.

I did see some seo guy on twitter doing something I thought was quiet clever. he did a list of 100 ways to use twitter but he spread the list out across about 4 different sites, all of course linking back to his hub.
