Copywriter Job Description

What does a copywriter do?

Copywriters write all kinds of things, for all kinds of people. There are two main types of copywriter – the advertising copywriter, and the other kind. Advertising copywriters work with a creative director, and together these creative partners generate concepts for advertising campaigns.

The other kind of copywriter is the one that writes copy for websites, intranets, brochures, posters, packaging, catalogues, manuals, guides, emails, signs and anything else than needs words.

How do copywriters work?

Copywriters help their clients or employers to communicate. Often, businesses need to communicate with an audience. Copywriters understand how to communicate clearly with different audiences in different situations.

Copywriters are corporate communicators and marketing writers. Their writing has to share information, convey benefits, entice customers and persuade the undecided.

What skills do copywriters need?

Copywriters need to be empathetic; they need to be able to put themselves in the position of their clients. Then, just when they’ve understood their client’s business, they have to flip themselves around and start thinking like their client’s customers.

Copywriters need to be good writers. They need to be able to adopt different writing styles and tones – matching their writing to the job. A good vocabulary and a solid understanding of grammar doesn’t hurt either.
